The mission of the Department of Medical Sciences of the Academy of Sciences and Arts of Bosnia and Herzegovina (ANUBiH) is to define observed biomedical problems in Bosnia and Herzegovina using scientific principles, and to develop solutions for them based on research results in cooperation with scientists and scientific institutions from the field of biomedicine from the country and abroad. Furthermore, the Department performs significant publishing activities including the regular publication of the international medical journal Acta Medica Academica and other ANUBiH publications.  In that sense, the Centre for the Coordination of Medical Research is a permanent organisational unit within the Department, as well as the following Committees: Committee for Psychiatric and Neurological Research, Committee for Cardiovascular Pathology, Committee for Malignant Diseases, Committee for Oral Health, Committee for Studying Antimicrobial Resistance, Committee for Training and Scientometrics in Biomedical (Scientific) Research, and Committee for Geriatrics and Gerontology.
